Edmodo is a free, secure, private micro-blogging and social network environment. Students and teachers can share ideas, files and assignments and generally facilitate communication and collaborative learning between students. You can register, very quickly and easily create security codes, and establish groups and classes that students can sign in to. It is possible for teachers to create and manage multiple groups of students, change group passwords and archive the group at the end of a term or year.

Etherpad
Availability:EtherPad is a free web-based word processor/whiteboard that allows people to work together in real-time, with each contributor assigned a different colour to help keep track. There is a chat area integrated into the page so you can discuss the topics as you construct a joint document, with any changes instantly reflected on everyone's screen. It is a productive way to collaborate on text documents, useful for meeting notes, brainstorming, and programming. It produces an URL that can be sent to the collaborators, which remains indefinitely. It is also possible to import documents for your computer before you begin and then export in a number of formats once you have finished.
